Springing into stewardship!
Forestry is classed as an “essential service” even in these times of COVID-19, and taking care of forests certainly provides us with many essential services in return! This spring, our stewardship staff Jack Singer and Charlie Mize started taking to the woods to check in on the health and well-being of the forests under our care. In early April, we visited five conserved properties in Mendocino County, California, meeting with landowners (staying safely well over 6 feet apart), inspecting forests post-harvest, evaluating wildlife habitat conditions, and ensuring that the conservation terms of our easements are being well met.
PFT has conserved over 28,000 acres in Mendocino and Humboldt Counties, from towering redwood forests to amazingly diverse oak woodlands, including the unique “Oracle” oak (Quercus moreha), a hybrid of the Black Oak (Quercus kelloggii) and the Live oak (Quercus wislizenii).
To learn more about our conservation projects, see a map of our conserved properties here.
Join us for Fete online!
Forest Fete 2020 is going virtual! The online celebration and auction begins on Thursday, April 30th at 6:00 PM (PDT), and ends at 6:00 PM (PDT) on Sunday, May 2nd. Though we are disappointed we won’t see you in person, this online setting presents new opportunities for
everyone to have a seat at the table. The website Forest Fete 2020 will be updated when the event begins to offer you an online experience of celebration and giving to further support the important work at Pacific Forest Trust. If you normally would purchase a ticket to attend, please consider making a donation in that amount.
We hope you’ll send in, or post, your best #selfieintheforest prior to April 30th, so that we can feature these photos during the online Fete. If you’re on social media, follow us and post your #selfieintheforest. Use hashtags #selfieintheforest & #forestfete2020. If you’re not on social, please email your photo (.jpeg) to jharris@pacificforest.org.
When you join us on April 30th for Forest Fete 2020, please send or post a picture of you and your “Quarantini-Fetini,” so that we can all raise a glass and toast to another great year of conservation & stewardship!
